Unemployment.

I have been unemployed for 2 months now. The first month wasn’t bad. I was able to travel to Greece and Lebanon with my brothers. I was able to tan in the beaches of Mykonos. I was able to explore a new culture in the old city of Athens. I was able to travel to Lebanon and spend time with my grandmother and cousins. I hadn’t seen them in 15 years. I was able to explore the Jeita Grotto, an incredible experience. I was able to eat all the deliciousness from saganaki cheese (fried cheese) to grandma’s homemade kibbeh (beef).

So unemployment didn’t feel so bad then.

Now that I’m back home with no job, I feel a bit useless. Friends keep telling me I should enjoy my unemployment but it’s kind of tough when you have no type of income to support your outings.

I continue to apply for jobs, to connect with people on LinkedIn, as well as contact any possible person that may provide some insight as to how I can achieve success (and by success I mean find a position in my field of work. Journalism). Since I spend so many days with no actual task to complete and all I seem to do is clean and read, I have decided that in between books, job applications and playing Cinderella, I will also start some sort of work out regime. Might as well get fit while unemployed. Since I can’t afford a gym membership, as of Thursday, I will become part of the Doral Run Club. I have never been much of a runner but I am actually looking forward to this runners club. Especially because it puts me out of my comfort zone and my pathetic routine.

I have also started a “Squat Challenge” which I hope to accomplish by the end of this month. Especially, because I rarely stick to a work out with such commitment or any work out for that matter. I shall try to record my progress. So far I am on day six, I have been able to make it to 60 squats, increasing five squats per day. Let’s hope I continue my good progress.

Did you stick to this?? How did it go?? I am not a fan of squats. I like doing activities that involve the whole body like Zumba, jogging, or jump rope. So that way I kill all birds with one stone.
