Cancún was a planned city.
It was a way to bring tourism to Mexico. Every inch was planned to attract people with the idea of beaches and fancy hotels, when it was established as a tourist spot many years ago, it was very expensive to travel to Cancún. Only people with a good economical standing could afford a visit. It was only a few years ago that the idea of all-inclusive hotels and packages became a thing, making Cancún accessible to many more tourists and even locals.
The idea of visiting Cancún came from wanting to have a weekend getaway. While looking through Groupon we came across a great deal. An all-inclusive hotel. We researched between Punta Cana, Cabo San Lucas and other cities and Cancún was our chosen destination.
The airline that was booked was Spirit, a very affordable airline. The saying, “you get what you pay for” has never been more true! Let’s just say if service is a big thing for when you travel, this is not your airline. The stewards were just plain rude. Not even a smile at the end of the flight.
We were just happy to be there and enjoy our weekend. We had a full day to enjoy Yucatan. We decided to hire a tour guide to drive us around do to the insecurities of a new country and well the fact that we were on vacation.
We visited Chichén Itzá. We walked around the ruins and seeing the history all around us is always a breathtaking experience. It’s wonderful to see people setting up shop to try to sell you their souvenirs. There are many wonderful pieces full of story that make you want to take them all home, we know!
It’s nice to hear the stories and myths directly from the sellers since most of them are descendants of the Mayan Indians most of them still speak the dialect, such an old language still alive thanks to them. It really does surprise you.
Right after the ruins we visited the Cenote Ikkil. We grabbed a life vest and made our way down the steps. We spent a few hours playing around in the water until we made our way to next town.
We had the opportunity to walk around the plaza in Valladolid and grabbed some tacos for lunch.
For the rest of our trip we stayed at the Grand Oasis Palm in Cancún. A wonderful hotel located on the strip of hotels in the city. Within the resort we had multiple restaurants to choose from, 4 different pools, unlimited alcohol and entertaining shows at night. The hotel had it all.
If you are looking for a getaway I definitely recommend all-inclusive hotels. They provide everything for your stay so you don’t even have to leave property.
