I had a very short trip to Chicago, IL (less than 24 hours). I should have done a bit more research of the city beforehand but since it was just a short trip I figured I’d be fine. I came up with a quick list of things to do and what not to do for a day trip.
Do come prepared to walk around. Once in downtown everything is relatively close by so walking or trolleys are the best option.
Don’t rent a car. For some reason this seemed like a great idea. Parking in Chicago is a hassle and expensive. Parking was an average of $15 to $28. And let’s not even talk about rush hour!
Do check the weather. Thankfully for the time I was there it was a really nice day out. Not too sunny and breeze. It did rain late in the afternoon and so our expedition had to be cut short, which was a good thing because it took us almost an hour and a half to get to the airport.
Don’t forget to stroll around Millennium Park where you can also find Cloud Gate, best known as The Bean.
Do try Giordano’s deep-dish pizza. I heard this is the tourist version of deep-dish pizza, but it was so delicious! I very much recommended. They had great service too so it all came together. I would definitely be going back for more. I did find out that you can order their pizzas online and have them deliver to your door step. I will be able to enjoy a delicious deep-dish pizza from Chicago right at home in Miami.
Do check out the Willis Tower Skydeck. It’s not for the faint of heart, especially if you are scared of heights but it certainly is a must do in Chicago. We were expecting at least an hour wait but we probably waited less than 35 minutes to reach the sky deck. If you can, I recommend purchasing the tickets online that way you have a less wait time. Tickets for adults were just $22.
